Jock Given

Adjunct Professor of Media and Communications, Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne

Jock Given researches and writes about media and communications business, policy, history and law. His work has been published in journals including Australian Economic History Review,  Business History, Historical Records of Australian Science, Information Economics and Policy, Journal of Digital Media and Policy, Media History, Prometheus and Telecommunications Policy. His radio documentaries Empire State: Ernest Fisk and the World Wide Wireless and Crawfords: Television for the People were broadcast on ABC Radio National in 2012 and 2014. Before joining Swinburne University of Technology, Jock worked as Director of the Communications Law Centre, Policy Advisor at the Australian Film Commission, and Director of Legislation and Industry Economics at the federal Department of Transport and Communications. Jock became a director of the Australian Society of Authors in 2022 and writes regularly for Inside Story.
