South Australia is a world leader in the uptake of distributed and renewable energy resources. To effectively manage the integration of these technologies into the state’s distribution network, SA Power Networks employs a range of strategies to enable flexibility across both generation & load.

This talk will discuss how flexibility of distributed energy resources can maximise benefits for consumers while minimising the need for investment in network infrastructure.

Liam Mallamo

Future Networks Engineer, SA Power Networks

Liam Mallamo, delivers SA Power Network’s strategies for grid integration of Electric Vehicles and household electrification, as well as developing technologies to enable flexible demand and energy optimisation within the home.

Liam holds a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of South Australia and has been working with SA Power Networks for 4 years. SA Power Networks is the sole electricity distributor in South Australia. With world leading uptake of distributed solar generation, and an increasing mix of batteries, electric vehicles and virtual power plants, SA Power Networks leads the way in managing the transition to a renewable and distributed energy future. Liam’s focus in on how the network’s ability to host distributed energy resources can be maximised, securing the state’s energy supply and supporting a decarbonised future. He delivers SA Power Network’s strategies for grid integration of Electric Vehicles and household electrification, as well as developing technologies to enable flexible demand and energy optimisation within the home.

Assoc. Professor Luke Rosenberg - MC

Research Specialist, Defence Science and Technology Group

Luke Rosenberg received the Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2000, Masters in Signal and Information Processing in 2001 and Ph.D degrees in 2007 all from the University of Adelaide, Adelaide, Australia. He is currently an adjunct Assoc. Professor with the University of Adelaide and a Research Specialist with the Defence Science and Technology Group. Dr. Rosenberg has received a number of best paper awards, the prestigious Defence Science and Technology Achievement Award for Science and Engineering Excellence in 2016 and the IEEE AESS Fred Nathanson award in 2018. He is currently an active member of the IEEE, a distinguished lecturer for the AESS and an associate editor for the Transactions of Aerospace and Electronic Systems.
