It is with great regret that we announce the death last night of our Vice Chairman Professor Reg Coutts. He passed away peacefully in hospital in Adelaide from liver cancer. Reg was Chairman of TelSoc since its inception in 2013 until last year and was previously Chairman of the TSA for a number of years. He was recognised in December with Life Membership of TelSoc for his invaluable service over many years. Alas, that proved all too short. The TelSoc Board 30th August 2021

TelSoc Members, We have an interesting forum online on Tuesday lunchtime on how NBN Co could benefit from integrating 5G into the broadband mix. 5G is often misunderstood as just the next generation of mobiles; it is far more. The 5G "core" will be the architecture for both mobile and fixed networks over the next few years. It is not only a threat to fixed networks, but also opens new opportunities.

Dear TelSoc Members, The IET Retired Group in SA has organised an interesting lecture from sonnenBatterie and they have kindly included TelSoc Members free-of-charge. Here is the invitation from Don Grigg and a flyer on the event (including a link). I for one am interested for my home system, but obviously there is interest for cell sites, nodes and small exchanges. Dear TelSoc Member, Each year TelSoc hosts the Henry Sutton Oration in Melbourne (we skipped 2020!) to commemorate the distinguished but scarcely known Victorian scientist, engineer and inventor from Ballarat.
